Brook scored 62 against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, helping his side to 177-6 at tea on day one.

Brook, who hit 41 and 66 not out in the opening Bob Willis Trophy match against Durham at Chester-le-Street, sparkled in the Nottingham sunshine, attacking and defending with equal poise.

He shared 92 for the fifth-wicket with Jonny Tattersall, to help Yorkshire recover from 44-4, but he fell in the final over before tea, bowled through the gate by Chris Nash’s off-spin.

Brook had five to his name and Tattersall 13 when Yorkshire resumed on 67-4 after lunch.

Brook produced a flurry of boundaries as Zak Chappell was pulled and on-driven with tremendous power, while Tattersall worked the ball around in an intelligent manner.

Tattersall fell with the score on 136, lbw attempting to sweep the left-arm spin of Samit Patel.

It was a shot that he had only narrowly got away with on a couple of occasions, but this time it did for him with his score on 31.

Brook went to his half-century from 89 balls with nine fours, and he also lofted Patel for a straight six into the pavilion.

He added 40 for the sixth-wicket with Jordan Thompson, who has 26 at the break and Steve Patterson one.

Editor’s note: first and foremost - and rarely have I written down these words with more sincerity - I hope this finds you well.
