Watts and Marsden whip out Cleck tail

Pudsey St Lawrence captured the last six Cleckheaton wickets for just 19 runs as they claimed a dramatic 16-run Division One win.

Spinners Chris Marsden (4-32) and Steve Watts (3-20) sparked the collapse after skipper John Wood (37) and Ammer Mahmood (31) looked to have put their side in a strong position at 147-4 in reply to St Lawrence’s 182-8, a score that owed much to Adam Waite’s knock of 74 as Yorkshire’s Iain Wardlaw took 5-52 for Cleckheaton.

St Lawrence are one of four clubs to have won both their opening games, Pudsey Congs, Hanging Heaton and Woodlands are the others.

Left-arm spinner Chris Brice had Lightcliffe in a spin, taking 6-32 as they were bowled out for 161. Alex Stead battled hard for his team’s top score of 61.

Off spinner Josh Wheatley (3-43) was Lightcliffe’s best bowler as Woodlands secured a five-wicket win. Scott Richardson (43) and Grant Soames (35no) guided the champions towards their target.
