Wainwright inspires Castleford to double

ECB YORKSHIRE: All-rounder David Wainwright was Castleford’s inspiration as they sentenced Scarborough to a first defeat since late May.

Wainwright struck 10 fours and a six in his 90 out of 298-8 and then took 5-23 runs off 14.2 overs to leave Scarborough all at sea. It took Castleford 37.2 overs to bowl out the hosts for 120, Chris Young assisting spinner Wainwright by taking 4-45 in 14 overs. It was Castleford’s second league win over Scarborough this season, following a seven-run victory at Savile Park on May 7.

York romped to victory over bottom of the table Doncaster by 191 runs after declaring at 356-5 in 46 overs. Opener Duncan Snell led the way with 114 off 103 balls, including 14 fours and two sixes, and he put on 105 for the second wicket with Oliver Hairs who made 60.

Andrew Tute, returning in place of the unavailable Marcus Wood, hit an unbeaten half-century and added 96 for the sixth wicket with Ryan McKendry, who made an undefeated 38. Doncaster were dismissed for 165 in 42.5 overs, spinners Dan Woods and Tom Pringle taking 5-80 and 4-42, respectively. Doncaster opener Felix Odell made 66 and was his side’s last man out.

Appleby Frodingham avenged an early-season defeat by Hull with a six-wicket victory at Chanterlands Avenue North, dominated by Duncan Heath whose innings of 136 not out contained 25 boundaries. After the visitors had lost two wickets for one run, Heath had a third-wicket stand of 160 with James Pickersgill, who enjoyed a half-century.

Earlier, 17-year-old leg spinner Matt Fowler bowled 19 overs and claimed 4-67 as Hull were bowled out for 212. Dom Rhodes made 79, including 13 fours and two sixes, and added 88 for the seventh wicket with Danny Wilkinson.

Jack Price, an 18-year-old medium pacer making his first appearance of the season for Barnsley, took 3-9 in five overs as his side won by 70 runs at Sheffield United. Matthew Wilson compiled a half-century for Barnsley, who totalled 201-8 in their 55 overs. In reply, United recovered from 99-9 to 131 all out, Adam Thorpe and Ali Jahangir putting on 32.

DRAKES HUDDERSFIELD: After the euphoria of hammering Honley by nine wickets the previous week, Elland were bowled out for their lowest total of the season by hosts Scholes who romped to a rapid eight-wicket win.

Elland were sent back for 52 in the 26th over, paceman Jarrod Lee taking 6-22 in 11 hostile overs and Mohammed Shahnawaz’s medium pace earning him 3-17 runs in 13 overs. No 11 batsman Stuart Fletcher was Elland’s highest scorer with an undefeated 12. Scholes reached the required total in 14 overs, Iqbal Khan and Ibrar Latif carrying their bats.

Medium-pacer Ritchie Howarth and leg-spinner Yasir Shah dismissed visitors Marsden for 97 in 35.1 overs, Howarth taking 5-47 in 18 overs and Shah 4-19 in 9.1 overs.

Max Joice made 33 in reply and Honley reached their target in 21.3 overs despite a fine spell of medium pace bowling from Martin Berry, who took 3-26.

The pace of Skelmanthorpe’s James Crossland proved decisive as he grabbed 6-30 as Broad Oak were felled for 95 in 31.5 overs. Haroon Rashid made 38 in the reply, leaving him 19 runs short of 1,000 runs for the season, and opener Louis Aspeling contributed 32.

Hoylandswaine inflicted a first defeat since May 21 on hosts Kirkburton, who lost by seven wickets after being bowled out for 136, despite a defiant 40 from Oliver Davidson. Bandula Don took 4-38 for Hoylandswaine who reached their target in 31 overs.

Slaithwaite won at relegation rivals Barkisland by one wicket, with Wajid Hussain the driving force. He made 63 and took four wickets. Simon Wheelwright hit 79 for Barkisland and Kimeshin Chetty grabbed 5-49 in 13 overs.

Shepley visited leaders Delph & Dobcross and won by two wickets with just four balls to spare. Delph’s Faisal Butt was the game’s top scorer with 93, including 12 fours and three sixes, but Shepley would not be denied.

Steve Whitwam collected his fourth century of the season for Golcar, who defeated visitors Shelley by three wickets. Whitwam’s 113 contained 14 fours and four sixes.

AIRE-WHARFE: John Inglis’s second century of the season helped Beckwithshaw get the better of Thackley, whose lead at the top of Division One was reduced to seven points.

Only a further 10 points separate second-placed Otley from Green Lane in seventh.

With the help of Michael Stanford (49), Inglis (112) guided Beckwithshaw to 212-6 and despite a half-century from Leon Harber and 41 from Adam Morgan, Thackley were still 39 runs off victory at the close.

Andrew Rhodes (5-21) and Anthony Giles (3-25) restricted Bilton to 142 in which Darren Blenkiron scored 57 and Chris Peareth 45. With Mike Missett (38) top scoring, Otley won by two wickets.

Kirkstall also went above Bilton after they crushed Collingham. Lee Gordon (61), Joe Gibson (62) and Kevin Bennett (59) starred as Kirkstall reached 250 before Bennett (6-45) and Jos Siddall (3-43) skittled the home side for 99.

An unbeaten 106 from Nick Robinson and 62 from James Ford helped Follifoot cruise past Green Lane’s 203-9 by nine wickets.

There was a third unbeaten century of the season by Dean Russ (133no) as Guiseley eased their relegation worries by taking five points at Adel, whose last pair hung on for the draw despite the efforts of Robert Atkinson (5-60).

There looks little chance that Rawdon will survive, although they came within a whisker of beating Burley.

After Jeremy Batty (5-33) kept Burley to 147, Rawdon’s last pair of Duncan Stow (57no) and Josh Hobson took them to within two runs of victory with a stand of 19 before Daniel Meredith came back on and bowled Hobson.

Promotion from Division Two seems to be two from Steeton, Knaresborough and Ben Rhydding, who all won and are 23 points clear of the pack.

Neil Spragg (4-45 & 60no) starred as Steeton passed Upper Wharfedale’s 222-7, while Stuart Cary (73no) and Calum How (59) steered Knaresborough past Harden’s 180-9.

Charlie Swallow (62) top scored in Ben Rhydding’s 213-8 before Alex Miller (4-8) and Nick Smith (3-35) bowled out fourth-placed Bolton Villas for 115.
