Breaking: Yorkshire CCC signs fast bowler Best plus Headingley latest score

Yorkshire have announced the signing of West Indian fast bowler Tino Best until the end of May.

The 28-year-old took one for 12 from 14 overs in a trial match for the Tykes against Lancashire on their recent pre-season tour of Barbados.

Best has claimed 28 Test and 13 ODI wickets and 221 first-class wickets at just 26.98 runs apiece with a career best of seven for 33.

He last played Test cricket in July 2009 with his most recent ODI appearance in September.

However, Best's arrival looks set to be delayed as he had been due to fly this weekend but the travel chaos caused by the volcanic ash cloud following the eruption in Iceland has placed his participation in Yorkshire's LV= County Championship match against Kent starting on April 21 in doubt.

Yorkshire director of professional cricket said: "Tino was in good form on our recent Caribbean trip after he contacted us to ask whether he could net with the squad in Barbados.

"He fitted in really well, bowled with pace and in good areas in the match he played for us over there and his bubbly personality will be an asset in the dressing room.

"I'm looking forward to seeing his bowling cause problems for our opponents and I'm sure he will be a real asset to the Yorkshire side."

Should Best's arrival be delayed by the disruption to air travel, it will merely be in keeping with the chapter of accidents which has afflicted Yorkshire's attempts with overseas signings for this summer.

Australian pace-bowling all-rounder Ryan Harris, their initial choice, has become unavailable for the early part of the season at least because of international commitments.

Yorkshire then turned to New Zealand fast bowler Daryl Tuffey, who subsequently broke his finger.

On the field, Yorkshire enjoyed a good day with the bat against Somerset in the County Championship.

They finished 419 all out, a first innings lead of 147, Adil Rashid scoring 63, while Somerset were 88-2 at tea. Marcus Trescothick was one of the men to fall, lbw to Tim Bresnan.

A successful third session saw Somerset struggle to 201-6.
