Amy Ryan - A Jockey’s Diary: Confident of stepping up a class again and going on a Hot Streak

YORK Racecourse star Hot Streak is being pitched into Group company in one of the big races tomorrow.

He opened his account on Knavesmire in an excellent maiden race in July and then extended his unbeaten streak with a Listed race during the Welcome To Yorkshire Ebor Festival.

The two-year-old hasn’t been found wanting and we go with some confidence to the all-weather track at Kempton Park south west of London tomorrow.

The Group 3 totepool.com Sirenia Stakes at 4.10pm is certainly a step up in class again, but he deserves his chance.

He was very impressive on his debut in the Real Richard Fahey On Sportinglife.com Median Auction Maiden Stakes. Naturally, he was a bit green as it was the first time he had seen a racecourse, but he only started to look around him when he hit the front.

Back at York a month later, he was also a little bit immature but he took the Julia Graves Roses Stakes in good order.

Hot Streak is laid back and shows a nice attitude. Hopefully, there is more to come from him and we will see it at Kempton Park tomorrow.

That race is on Racing UK, while the major race meeting nationwide tomorrow is at Haydock Park on Merseyside. The Betfred Sprint Cup is on both Channel 4 and Racing UK for those who are in front of a television.

We run two in the Group 1 dash in a field of 16.

It looks like an excellent renewal of Haydock Park’s richest race of the year. The sprint is always competitive and will be over in a flash, just 70 seconds.

Hamza, if the bookmakers are to be believed, would be our number one chance. He has winning form from Haydock Park in the Spring of 2012, though he’s been out of luck at York in his three races on Knavesmire.

He was a very narrow second to Heeraat at York around 12 months ago and they re-oppose tomorrow. Likewise, Hamza was pipped at the post by a small margin at The Curragh a little over a week ago. He is still enjoying a good season and, hopefully, he’ll do well tomorrow in the race which is at 3.50pm.

Our other representative is Tiddliwinks who showed he was coming back to form when finishing mid-division at a long price in the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe at the Welcome To Yorkshire Ebor Festival.

That should set him up nicely for tomorrow’s sprint and, hopefully, he will defy the odds.

Seventy minutes earlier at Haydock, Glory Awaits goes for the betfred.com Superior Mile.

It’s a Group 3 and our three-year-old has been having a good season without getting his head in front. He won his maiden race at Haydock Park last year.

This year he was runner-up to Dawn Approach in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas and was behind the Classic winner again at Royal Ascot. He always comes out of his races bouncing and he has been showing us good form at home. Running again at Group 3 level should see him in with a chance of his first 2013 win.

We have a few entered for York’s Sunday Family Day and with over £100,000 in prize-money, an excellent pot for a Sunday, there’s an incentive to run.

The feature race is the Betfred Garrowby Stakes at 3pm – and hopefully we’ll be represented, maybe by Lightning Cloud, our Buckingham Palace Stakes winner at the Royal Meeting.

The last race on Sunday is a valuable race limited to apprentice jockeys.
