An unusual new run of 10 pence coins is now in circulation, each with a unique design that celebrates the quintessential things that make Britain great.

The 26 coins (one for each letter of the alphabet) depict everything from a traditional English breakfast to the Loch Ness monster.

James Bond, King Arthur and the National Health Service are also honoured in the new series.

Some of the quirkier coins pay homage to the British institutions of fish and chips, queuing and teapots.

Collectors' versions of the coins are available to buy from the Royal Mint website.

Alternatively, those searching for the new designs the old fashioned way can use the free and official Coin Hunt app (available for both iOS and Android devices) to digitally catalogue the special coins they receive in change.

Once downloaded, simply use your phone camera to scan the coin and log it.

The app includes a heat map highlighting locations where certain coins are being found, and can be linked up to social media.
