Hide AdMr Hulme’s winning selection included an unusual shot of a “mermaid exercise course” at Bramley Baths in Leeds.
He said: “That was the hardest one to do. I used an underwater camera bag and held it just on the water line. There is a tremendous amount of natural light in those old baths, which gives the picture an unusual quality.”
Another shot, of vintage cycling enthusiast Graham Reed on a penny farthing on the Harrogate Stray, was possible only after he talked him into bringing it on the train from Pudsey.
Ian Day, deputy editor of The Yorkshire Post, said: “Simon’s excellent portfolio demonstrates his talent, imagination and exceptional eye for detail to capture an award winning set of pictures which impressed the team of judges. This is a prestigious accolade and Simon should be rightly proud of his achievement.”
Mr Hulme’s father Mel Hulme was a noted photographer on the Yorkshire Evening Post until his retirement.
