After several blissful months free of cold calls (thanks to BT and their new system) the monsters have returned in full force to plague the lives of elderly suckers.

Once again after two calls this morning I have a return of the “shakes” and feel threatened, wondering if they know where I live and if I may end up being burgled or worse. Surely some expert electronic wizard or can invent some way of stopping the new scam whereby the fiends leave “You were Called” messages; which BT is unable to prevent.

I found this to be the case when I had one in the first few weeks of help from BT, who told me I was unable to put such calls on my “black list”. It gave me great satisfaction to add many days of horrid numbers to my growing list. However, now they are wised up to this I am getting at least two a day.

The only day free of them has been Sunday in the last 20 days. I feel so anxious that I wonder whether to have the phone removed.

At 88 you don’t have too much time to enjoy your garden and the spring flowers and birdsong, I realise that.

But in this age of numerous incredible gadgets and communication systems surely something can be done?
