Yorkshire's famous home produce is star of weekend food festival

MICHELIN-starred chefs showcased recipes using Yorkshire's famous produce at a weekend food festival.

Organisers hope that they have exceeded the 5,000 attendance for the first Malton Food Lovers Festival last May after crowds flocked to see more than 60 stalls displaying a vast range of food and drink on Saturday.

Produce on show in the town's Market Square included delicatessen and patisserie products, cup cakes and baked goods, honey, herbs and rapeseed oil, meats, game and pies, fresh fish, asparagus, ice cream and homemade soups.

The chef-proprietor of the Star Inn at Harome, near Helmsley, Andrew Pern, and James Mackenzie, who runs the Pipe and Glass Inn at South Dalton in East Yorkshire, both gave cookery demonstrations, and there were masterclasses by the Bettys Cookery School.

One of the organisers, Tom Naylor-Leyland, said: "We are so lucky to have such wonderful produce available in Yorkshire, with much of it right on Malton's doorstep.

"The cookery demonstrations were a great way of giving people a chance to see what they can do with the produce."

A beer festival was also staged in Malton's Milton Rooms on Saturday with tutored tastings of 20 local beers and ciders.
