Yorkshire urges power handover on key transport project decisions
POLITICIANS from the three major parties have joined forces to urge the Government to start building its high-speed rail network as soon as possible.
In a joint letter in today’s Yorkshire Post three Leeds MPs, as well as city council leader Keith Wakefield and chief executive Tom Riordan, claim the project would help rebalance the economy and create jobs in the region.
The letter comes just days before Transport Secretary Justine Greening is widely expected to announce the Government is going ahead with its £32billion High Speed Two (HS2) scheme.
It will see Leeds and South Yorkshire linked with Birmingham, London and Manchester by 2033.
