Women held over child at port

Two women have been charged with trying to bring a 10-year-old boy into Britain illegally after being stopped at a cross-Channel port, said the UK Border Agency.

Border officers became suspicious after stopping three foot passengers when they disembarked a ferry from Dieppe, France, at Newhaven port in East Sussex. Nedege Kyara Bongo, 28, a Congolese national, and French national Augustin Mumbamuna, 49, were charged with facilitating the boy's entry into Britain and Identity Cards Act offences.

Both were remanded in custody following their arrest. Meanwhile, the boy in the care of social services.
