We’ll keep working say modest Leeds Lotto millionaires

A LEEDS couple who scooped nearly £2 million in a lottery windfall insist they will not give up their jobs.

Driving instructor Steve Poole, 64, and his wife Gwen, 58, landed a £1,963,927 share of the Lotto jackpot in Saturday night’s draw.

The pair, from Yeadon, now say they want to “see the world” but remain adamant they will not stop working.

“It’s tempting but I won’t (leave my job),” Mrs Poole, a dental nurse, said.

“I have worked for a lovely chap for 17 years so I’m not going to leave him in the lurch. That’s all I know for sure.

“What’s going to happen in the future, I don’t know, but I shall carry on working for as long as he needs me - up to a point.”

Her delighted husband, who is employed part-time, said he would still have “plenty” of time off.

“I sort of enjoy it and so I’m going to carry on doing it,” he said.

“I’ve got driving tests booked up until January so I can’t just leave them.”

The couple, who sent one of their four sons, Tom, to buy the ticket, only discovered they had struck it lucky on Sunday evening when he presented them with the numbers.

“Tom came in on Sunday night, told Gwen and I to sit down and then passed us the ticket,” he added.

“We looked at it and then the results he had put on the TV.

“The amount was under the numbers, we were all a bit numb to be honest.”

His wife took charge of the ticket - bought from Morrisons in Yeadon - and placed it in a picture frame for safe keeping.

Asked how they would spend their win, Mrs Poole said: “We want to pay off all the mortgage, pay off the bills and help family, that’s the main one. And travel - we want to see the world. That’s it really.”

The pair have previously banked a prize of around £1,900.

The winning numbers from Saturday’s draw were 6, 12, 13, 28, 33 and 38.
