Hawes power cut: Nearly 500 homes in the Yorkshire Dales without electricity as heavy snowfall brings power lines down

A large area of the Yorkshire Dales National Park has been left without electricity after heavy snowfall damaged power lines.

Video footage shows pylons whose cables have collapsed near Hawes.

Nearly 500 properties are affected, Northern Powergrid confirmed. A statement released said: “We are working to get power in DL8 back on as quickly and safely as we can. Our engineers have found a grounded overhead power line which caused the power cut affecting 489 properties. Repairs are ongoing and we estimate to have power restored at 6pm.”
