Waterfront Festival takes to the Aire

PLANS are almost in place for the two-day Leeds Waterfront Festival in July which will showcase live music, decorated canal boats, aerial circus acts and craft markets.

The free festival on July 17 and 18 is organised by Aire Action Leeds and organisations including Welcome to Yorkshire, British Waterways, Leeds City Council and Yorkshire Water. Four riverside locations will offer water-based fun and entertainment, with the addition of the newly revamped Granary Wharf for this year's event.

Organisers are expanding the festival after the successful event in 2009, which attracted around 6,000 visitors.

Aire Action Leeds project officer Rachel Clunas said: "Thwaites Mill will be the perfect place for children with plenty of family activities.

"Further up stream at Clarence Dock, Brewery and Granary Wharf there will be lots to see and do, including historic canal boats, live jazz, aerial circus and arts and craft stalls."

She said the festival would feature a broad mix of performances to suit all tastes.

There will also be walks specially devised by Leeds Civic Trust.
