Vintage vehicles make day out an event

South Yorkshire Transport Museum's chairman Douglas Miller dusts off a 1943 Dodge United States Army Ambulance as the site prepares for and Event Day on Sunday.

More than 75 vintage vehicles, including a newly arrived 1938 Scammell gun tractor that is currently awaiting restoration, will be on show at the museum.

Other exhibits include a Second World War DUKW, an amphibious truck used for transporting goods and troops over land and water.

The museum is also home to one of only two Rotherham motorbuses ever restored, along with a range of older buses and a variety of transport-related items.

A spokesman said: "The museum is one of the newest attractions in South Yorkshire and has something for everyone, from heritage bus rides to our newest additions including a fire engine and the Second World War DUKW."

Sunday's event will run from 11am until 4pm and, between 11am and 4.30pm there will be a vintage bus shuttle service between Rotherham Interchange and the museum in Waddington Way, Parkgate.

Entry costs 3.50 for adults and 2 for concessions.
