Video: Horse punched by soccer yob is now stable
Shire-cross Bud, from West Yorkshire Police’s mounted section, was struck by the thug when violence flared in the wake of Sunday’s North-East derby between Newcastle and Sunderland.
The horse, which has been with the force for seven years, was resting in the paddock at Carr Gate, Wakefield, yesterday and will be back on the streets on Thursday.

Hide AdInspector Trevor Thackray, from the mounted police section, said: “We are pleased to say that Bud is totally fine and resting up after Sunday’s eventful operation in Newcastle. Our police horses are used to dealing with all types of disorder so, while the images on the news may have looked shocking, Bud wasn’t hurt.”
A total of 29 supporters have been arrested in connection with the post-match violence. Bud’s suspected attacker was arrested bailed pending further inquiries.
Three police officers were also injured during clashes with Newcastle fans after the side’s 0-3 defeat at St James’ Park.
