Veteran choirs hopes to hit the right notes and make it into record books

Thirteen residents at St Johns House Care Home in Kirk Hammerton, near York, hope to sing their way into the Guinness Book of World Records when they attempt to become the world’s ‘oldest’ choir.

The St John’s House Choir, formed in 2012, is made up of twelve women and one man, all residents at the home who have a combined average age of ninety one years and one member who recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

It is hoped that the attempt, to become the choir which has the eldest members in the world, which takes place tomorrow, will result in a world record.

Rosalie Pinder, 96, a member of the choir, said: “You definitely feel better if you have a good sing.”

Early in 2013, staff at the home encouraged the elderly choir to record their favourite songs onto a CD.

It was recorded while the choir sat in the comfort of their
own armchairs and the choir’s first CD will is being launched today.

The choir’s world record attempt will take place tomorrow evening, at the home when they will perform in concert, watched by adjudicators.
