Vandals target army base church

Police in Catterick Garrison have launched an appeal for witnesses after 20 panes of glass were smashed at St Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, in Hipswell Road, earlier this month.

It is the fifth window to be smashed by vandals since the attacks began in December

Officers have stepped-up patrols in the area in an attempt to stop the church from being targeted further.

They have also been making house to house inquiries in the area and are urging anyone who knows who is responsible to come forward.

PC Nicola Pattinson, of Catterick Garrison Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Unfortunately some mindless acts of vandalism have occurred at the church over the past few months which has caused a great deal of upset and inconvenience to the people who run and use the premises.

“I am appealing to local residents to let the police or Crimestoppers know if they have seen any suspicious activity in the area or if they know who is responsible for causing the damage.”
