Police quiz three over phone-fight boy’s death

POLICE are continuing to question three teenagers over the murder of a schoolboy stabbed to death when he fought back after robbers stole his BlackBerry phone.

Temidayo Ogunneye, 15, was killed in south London on Wednesday after a fight broke out when he took on the gang who he believed had snatched the £100 mobile, it is believed.

Three teenage suspected gang members have been arrested and were being questioned yesterday over the attack as detectives renewed appeals for witnesses who may have seen the attack in broad daylight.

Detective Chief Inspector John McFarlane, of Scotland Yard’s homicide command, said investigations showed Temidayo was robbed about two hours before he was murdered in Camberwell. “His mobile phone, a BlackBerry phone, was stolen, there was a physical altercation between Temidayo and three youths,” the detective said.

“It’s our belief that Temidayo left the area after the robbery and then returned some time later with two or three friends in an attempt to retrieve his mobile phone.

“He then came to the Calais Gate area where he encountered a number of other youths and it was during this altercation that he received fatal stab wounds.”

Among those that saw the “horrible” attack was a nine-year-old girl who screamed in terror as she watched the stabbing on a leafy street. Another local told how a teacher tried to step in to break up the violence.
