Odd couple united after pitbull attack

IT MAY sound more like the storyline of a children’s movie than a tale from a North Yorkshire farmyard, but the heroics of Dotty the donkey have been honoured by an animal charity after she saved the life of a sheep that was being savaged by a dog.

Dotty who is 12 years old, was presented with a PDSA certificate for animal bravery after fighting off a pitbull terrier which had strayed into an animals paddock on a farm in Scarborough and began attacking Stanley the sheep. Farm owner Ann Rogers looked on in disbelief as the donkey intervened and pinned the dog to the ground. She said: “I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, she just sprang into action.” Two years on, the sheep is now fully recovered and never far from his heroic friend, even sharing the same stable at night.
