Light shed on hall’s dark corners

AN innovative lighting scheme has been installed to transform the appearance of parts of historic Nunnington Hall in North Yorkshire.

The new lighting displays will remain in place until the end of May and have been planned to illuminate some of dark areas of the house and the collection displayed there.

Natural light can be damaging to some sensitive items like fabrics, but artificial light contains very few of the harmful UV rays and that means they can be illuminated in a way which is not normally possible.

Sarah Taylor, House Steward, pictured, said: “It is exciting to see some of these pieces illuminated and to show our visitors objects like paintings and tapestries which they would normally struggle to see in dark corners or even walk past without knowing what they are missing.”
