Hundreds mark funeral of murdered nightclubber Sian

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Swindon yesterday to pay their respects to the murdered nightclubber Sian O’Callaghan.

Wellwishers gathered in the Old Town area – where she lived with her boyfriend and was last seen alive – as the funeral cortege passed slowly by with a police escort and threw flowers.

Among the hundreds who paid their respects in Old Town was Susie Rathbone.

“A lot of us have already been touched by what’s happened to Sian and to her family,” she said. “I think we all felt it could have affected any one of us. I came here today to show my support to the family.”

Floral tributes accompanying Miss O’Callaghan’s coffin included two spelling out “SIAN” in white flowers.

Former schoolfriend, Melloney Welch, 23, said: “Sian was just a friend of everyone’s.

“If anyone knew her they only had good things to say about her.

“Today was just lovely that so many people came out to pay their respects.”

Miss O’Callaghan, 22, was last seen leaving Suju nightclub early on March 19 after a night out.

Her body was uncovered in a field in Uffington, Oxfordshire, five days later.

A man has been charged with her murder.
