Pony rides, bread-making and watching chicks hatch will form part of Springtime Live, set to take place on Sunday April 13 at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.

Organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, the event will sit alongside the Great Yorkshire Show and its sister event Countryside Live in the autumn.

Nigel Pulling, the society’s chief executive said: “Each year around 14,000 children come to the showground to learn more about where food comes from and the vital role our farmers play in producing it.

“This is a message that it’s never too young to appreciate, and one we want to keep alive.

“It will be fun, and it will be informative, but most of all it will be engaging.

“We already have events for primary school children, their teachers and for teenagers looking at career choices, so it makes sense to square the circle and involve the very youngest children.”

One of the star attractions will be Peppa Pig, the hugely popular children’s TV character.

Tickets are available on line at www.springtimelive.co.uk and on the gate or on gate on the day, charged at £8 for adults and £5 for children.

Meanwhile the society will be hoping for record crowds at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show, which is set to take place on July 8, 9 and 10. Call 01423 541222 to book or visit www.greatyorkshireshow.co.uk/
