Camerons host a Royal birthday lunch at Number 10

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh made a rare visit to Downing Street yesterday, attending a special lunch hosted by David and Samantha Cameron to celebrate the Duke’s recent 90th birthday.

The red carpet was rolled out for the visit, with the Prime Minister and his wife greeting their special guests outside Number 10.

Mrs Cameron, wearing a patterned white dress with green belt by Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders, curtseyed as she shook hands, first with the Queen and then with the Duke.

The lunch menu featured a starter of Stilton and watercress tart, a main course of Inverurie beef from Aberdeenshire in Scotland, and a dessert of peaches and nectarines with ice cream.

The Duke became a nonagenarian on June 10.
