Two killed after biplane crashes in woods

TWO men died after their biplane crashed in woods, police said.

The pair, believed to be French nationals, came down in Rotherfield Greys, near Henley, Oxfordshire, at about 4.45pm on Saturday, a spokesman for Thames Valley Police said.

The pilot, who was believed to be 40, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he later died while his 32-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police spokesman said: "Both men are believed to be French nationals, however, officers have been unable to trace the family of the pilot at this time.

Investigators from the Air Accident Investigation Branch were at the scene yesterday.

The biplane had taken off from White Waltham Airfield near Maidenhead, Berkshire. A spokesman declined to comment on the crash but confirmed it involved a visiting aircraft.
