A180 closure: Air ambulance called after crash between two lorries closes major road

A major road was closed for more than 12 hours after two lorries crashed.

The A180, near Immingham, was closed at 5pm on Thursday (Jul 20) following a serious crash between two lorries between the M180/A15 near Barnetby le Wold and Humberside Airport and the A160 near Habrough. Crews from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Yorkshire Air Ambulance were all called to the scene, alongside Humberside Police. National Highways staff were also at the scene.

Police are conducting collision investigation work, which closed the road, and there was also a significant clean-up operation in progress. The road reopened shortly before 10am on Friday (Jul 21).

A statement from Humberside Police said: “It is reported at around 4.50pm that an articulated lorry was travelling eastbound along the A180 between Barnetby Top and Immingham, A1173 when it collided with a stationary articulated lorry which is thought to have broken down in a live lane.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the broken down lorry was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries which are thought to be life threatening at this time.“The driver of the second lorry was also taken to hospital to be treated for injuries which are not thought to be serious at this time. The road was closed to allow emergency services to work safely and was re-opened shortly before 9am this morning (Friday 21 July).

“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision, or anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist with our enquires to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 345 of 20 July.”
