Track star’s train tribute

A SCULPTURE of Olympic gold medallist Jonathan Edwards – made entirely from used train parts – has been unveiled at Leeds station.

Created by award-winning sculptor Ptolemy Elrington, the life-sized work was unveiled on the southern concourse as it embarked on a station tour along the East Coast main line to raise awareness of rail travel to London this summer.

It was commissioned by train operator East Coast and weighs 350kg. Jonathan Edwards said: “The sculpture is very striking and really took me aback when I first saw it. It’s incredible to think it was possible to create such a structure from old bits of train, but it has been crafted brilliantly.” It will be at Leeds until Friday and then go to Newcastle and Edinburgh Waverley.
