Town uniting to fight proposals to axe A&E unit
AROUND 300 people attended a public meeting to show their opposition to the possible closure of a Yorkshire hospital’s accident and emergency department.
A proposed shake-up of services could see 24-hour A&E services downgraded at either Calderdale Royal Hospital or Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
Following Saturday’s meeting at North Bridge Leisure Centre in Halifax, the town’s Labour MP Linda Riordan said: “The turnout was fantastic as hundreds of people from across Halifax and Calderdale united to send a clear ‘hands off our A&E message’. There will be many more rallies over the coming weeks, maintaining the pressure on the Government and health bosses to reverse this callous closure proposal.”
Bosses in charge of the review of services have said that no decisions have been made.
