Toddler’s injury regrettable says nursery

A NURSERY has described an “incident” in which a toddler apparently suffered serious facial injuries as “highly regrettable”.

The boy, who is about 14 months old, is understood to have suffered extensive injuries to both sides of his face while in the care of the Little Stars Day Nursery, at Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education, on Tuesday, October 18.

People who have seen the infant described his injuries as “horrific”. They are believed to include swelling and bruising above his left eye and grazes across his right cheek, nose and mouth.

The college said in a statement last night: “Following an incident which occurred on October 18 to a child in the care of its nursery, the Grimsby Institute appointed an independent investigator to investigate the circumstances of the incident and the safeguarding procedures in place.

“Whilst the incident was highly regrettable, the investigation concluded that all reasonable and necessary measures were and are in place at the institute to ensure the safety of children within our care.”
