Tip firm rubbishes turbine ‘rumours’

A WASTE management firm has moved to quash an “ill-informed rumour” that a proposed wind farm in North Lincolnshire could represent a threat to human health because its turbines would be sited on a tip.

The company, WRG, is seeking planning permission to build a four-turbine farm at a landfill site near Winterton.

The project, at Ironstone Quarry, would generate enough electricity to power more than 5,400 homes.

But some residents have voiced concerns that the turbines will be built on the tip and disturb the waste stored there.

The firm said in a statement: “Waste Recycling Group categorically rejects the allegation currently being circulated that it is intending to site wind turbines on top of the landfill at Winterton, thereby causing disturbance of hazardous materials that could pose a risk to health. This is definitely not the case.

“WRG wishes to reassure residents who may have been unnecessarily worried by this ill- informed rumour. The proposal at Winterton features four turbine locations, all of which are sited on solid land owned by WRG – not on the landfill itself.”
