Three young sport stars vie for glory

London 2012 stars Jessica-Jane Applegate and Josef Craig and gymnast Rebecca Tunney are in the top three to win the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

The 10-strong shortlist for this year’s outstanding young sportsperson aged 16 or under has been whittled down to three.

East Yorkshire tennis star Kyle Edmund, athlete Olivia Breen, golfer Georgia Hall, BMX 
rider Quillan Isidore, swimmer Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, windsurfer Saskia Sills and slalom canoeist Kimberley Woods were among the other shortlisted youngsters.

Applegate, 16, won gold in 
the 200m freestyle in the S14 category at the London 2012 Paralympics while Craig, 15, became Britain’s youngest champion 
at London 2012 when he won the S7 400m freestyle at the Paralympics.

Tunney, an artistic gymnast, was the youngest athlete to compete in the Olympics at the age of 15.
