Thieves target football fans' cars

Police are urging motorists to be vigilant after two reported car thefts in the Herries Road area of Sheffield at the weekend.

Two high value cars were reportedly stolen on Sunday, between 2-6.30pm.

One of the vehicles, a black Audi A5, was parked in Rawson Spring Way, and the other, a red Audi A5, was parked in Herries Road. It is believed the car owners were at a football match at the nearby Hillsborough stadium.

PC Dean Craik, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “I’d urge all motorists to take the utmost care when parking their vehicles – make sure your vehicle is secure and wherever possible, park somewhere well-lit or covered by CCTV, as this can discourage would-be thieves.

“I’d also strongly advise that you take care not to leave anything of value on show when leaving your vehicle behind – remove all valuables and remember, even if you leave a little bit of loose change lying around, that could be enough to tempt someone to break into your car.

“Our investigation into these vehicle thefts remains ongoing and if anyone saw any suspicious activity, please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information about the thefts, is asked to call the force on 101 or email [email protected] quoting incident number 1000 of August 7, 2016.
