Textile artist weaves her magic

VIVID designs by an innovative textile designer have been suspended from the walls of an art gallery on a country estate as part of an exhibition which aims to draw attention to the importance of fabrics in everyday life.

The pieces, by London-based Ptolemy Mann, are being shown in the Architecture of Cloth, Colour and Space exhibition, which has opened at the Harley Gallery, on the Welbeck Estate, near Worksop.

Rebecca Wombell, from the gallery, is shown above with Geranium Vortex, one of the many colourful textiles on display

Ms Mann, who hand-weaves all her designs using specially-dyed fibres, said many people took for granted the role textiles played in everyday life and in applications such as architecture.

She said: “Colour is a deeply emotive subject.” PICTURE: Chris Lawton
