Teenage girl and two men killed as car careers into salon

Flowers were left at the site in Thornton where the black Mitsubishi Evolution careered off Thornton Road into a hairdresser’s shop at the junction with Kipping Lane just after 11pm on Monday.

The 27-year-old driver and his back seat passenger, 19, were both from Denholme while the front seat passenger, 32, was from neighbouring Thornton. All three died at the scene.

Tributes flooding in for the victims online yesterday named the young woman as Jade Best and one of the men as Daniel Hague.

David Kaye, a friend of both, described Miss Best as a “top girl” and a “soldier” and Mr Hague as a “true friend and hero” on Facebook.

Dannielle Webster wrote: “Such sad news, RIP Jade Ashleigh Best such a lovely lass. Thoughts are with your family.”

And Chantelle Regan added on Twitter: “Heartbreaking news for such a beautiful, courageous girl and her family who have been through so much recently... RIP Jade xx.”

A card on one of the dozens of bunches of flowers left at the scene read: “RIP Jade. We love you, will always miss you. All your Denholme girlies.”

Another read: “My gorgeous baby sister. I’ll love you for ever and ever. Miss you so much already.”

Speaking at the crash site yesterday, Chief Superintendent Angela Williams, divisional commander for West Yorkshire Police’s Airedale and North Bradford Division, said the tragedy had “wrecked” the community.

“Our thoughts are going out to the families of these three young people that have tragically lost their lives,” she said.
