Swimmer Adlington goes for gold and signs up for ‘I’m a Celebrity’

Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington is set to dive into the jungle for the new series of I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! according to reports.

The swimmer, who won two golds in 2008, will join ex-soap actors and TV stars in the new series, which starts on Sunday.

The Sun has reported Adlington is one of a dozen celebrities taking part including snooker player Steve Davis.

Also heading out to Australia are former EastEnder Laila Morse, who played Mo Harris, TV presenter Matthew Wright and Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas Dingle in Emmerdale.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Vincent Simone, TV presenter Annabel Giles and designer David Emanuel, who designed Princess Diana’s wedding dress, are also on the ITV show, which starts on Sunday at 9pm. Last year’s series was won by Charlie Brooks who plays Janine Butcher in EastEnders.

Meanwhile, Tory MP Nadine Dorries was yesterday forced to apologise to the Commons for failing to properly register her media earnings, including any fee received for her appearance on the show last year.

In a statement, she told MPs she apologised “fully and unreservedly for what was a genuinely inadvertent breach of the rules”.

The Commons Standards Committee found she should have declared earnings for media work through Averbrook Ltd, of which she is a director, and was also critical of her for failing to co-operate fully with an investigation by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner.
