Stately home set to bloom for enthusiasts at garden fair

A STATELY home will be awash with colour when it hosts its annual garden fair next week.

Gardeners will be able to buy plants and gifts, and gain inspiration and gardening tips while enjoying the flowers and plants already in full bloom in the manicured grounds of Burton Agnes Hall.

More than 60 stalls will be in place over the weekend of June 12 and 13. There will also be a programme of talks held run in a marquee, where visitors will be raise questions.

The talks will include a plant clinic with Dick Robinson, who was recently given a Master of Horticulture award by the Royal Horticultural Society, and who regularly appears on BBC Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time.

Beekeeping expert Gerard Baker will offer advice on planting for bees while also signing copies of his new book, Bees and Beekeeping Explained.

Hall owner Simon Cunliffe-Lister said: "The gardeners' fair at Burton Agnes Hall is the ultimate summer celebration of gardening.

"Garden enthusiasts can take inspiration from the beautiful gardens at the hall and take home both stunning plants and invaluable knowledge too."

The hall will donate 50p from each admission to the National Gardens Scheme.

The Elizabethan house, which was built between 1598 and 1610 by Sir Henry Griffith, will be open for visitors, while at the courtyard shops and farmers' food store will be stocked with gifts and seasonal produce.

The next event at the hall will be an English Civil War Re-enactment staged over the weekend of July 24 and 25.

Entrance to the hall costs 4.50, 4 and 2.50, while under-fives go free.
