Spurn bus in last run before winter

VISITORS to the East Coast have just four more days to use the only bus serving a remote beauty spot.

The Spurn Ranger, the number 73 run by East Yorkshire Motor Services, is the only dedicated bus serving the fragile peninsula of Spurn Point, and can be picked up at any stop on the route from Withernsea.

But it will make its last run on Sunday before being withdrawn for the winter.

About 3,000 people have boarded the minibus since it went back on the road on Good Friday.

“This time of year Spurn Point is a spectacular place for seeing birds set in a dramatic landscape,” said Adam Fowler, community environment officer at the City of Hull and Humber Environment Forum.

“The Spurn Ranger bus service is a great way to enjoy this experience.”

As well as encouraging visitors to South Holderness, the bus provides a local service to residents in Easington, Skeffling and Welwick who would otherwise have no service at all on Sundays and bank holidays. It operates four daily return journeys between Withernsea, Patrington and Kilnsea before taking the narrow peninsula to Spurn Point.
