Social worker wins allotment title

Social worker Marcus Beacham only took on his allotment last September but he is already winning accolades.

Mr Beacham, 46, who lives at Gateway East, in Leeds city centre, has won the best newcomer title in a competition in Leeds voted for by his peers. He pursues his pastime at Oakwood Lane Allotments.

Although he only started in September Mr Beacham has already grown a range of produce including cabbages, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, sweetcorn and butternut squash and says: “It’s a totally different taste.”
