Snap inspection on resort’s taxis
Taxis and private hire vehicles were inspected to ensure they did not have defects such as steering systems, brakes, faulty headlights, problems with indicators, illegal tyres and worn handbrakes.
In addition licensing officers were checking that licensed drivers were fully compliant with the council’s taxi and private hire policy and Government legislation.

Hide AdThe inspection involved North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire County Council and Scarborough Borough Council’s licensing department.
Twenty-six taxi and private hire vehicles were inspected of which two-thirds of the vehicles were given a clean bill of health.
Four vehicles were found to have defects and ordered to undergo a repairs, verbal warnings were issued to five drivers for more minor defects.
Coun Brian Watson, chairman of the council’s licensing committee said: “I am pleased with the way the operation has been conducted. We take the safety of the travelling public very seriously.”
He said more snap inspections were planned in future.
