Royal orchestra tunes up for show

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is to perform at Scunthorpe’s Baths Hall in spring.

The orchestra, which previously played at the venue in November shortly after it reopened following a £14.4m makeover, will take to the stage on May 10.

Led by conductor Simon Wright, the programme will include Smetana’s Overture to The Bartered Bride, Sibelius’s atmospheric Finlandia and Beethoven’s Symphony No 5.

Baths Hall general manager Dan Harris said: “I am delighted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is to return to the Baths Hall just a few months after their last appearance.

“As anyone who attended their November show will remember, the orchestra put on an incredible show and it will live long in the memory. A number of people spoke to me after the event asking when they would return and I am looking forward to hosting them again in May.”

The venue in Doncaster Road is a former public swimming pool dating back to 1931 and now features an auditorium catering for seated audiences of more than 1,000, with a capacity of 2,000 for standing events.
