Rooftop shoot-out to boost charitiesies

A CHARITY shoot for clay pigeons launched off the roof of a Victorian folly on a North Yorkshire country estate is set to raise thousands for good causes.

The annual shoot, at Azerley Tower, which was built in 1830 on the 1,500-acre Azerley Estate, near Ripon, was started by Kevin Birch in 2008 to raise funds for the Child Development Centre at Harrogate Hospital, after his daughter Molly suffered complications when she was born.

Last year, £8,500 was raised and Mr Birch, the gamekeeper on the estate who lives in Azerley Tower, says he hopes that the event on April 17 will prove to be the best yet.

“Last year’s event was a huge success but this year another 80 bird flush has been added giving each team 480 clays”, he said.

“We hope we will raise even more this year.”

Due to the amount of interest, the event is limited to 70 teams of four and costs £120 to enter with a cash prize of £200.

This year’s chosen charities are The Disabled Riders Group of Follifoot Park, Harrogate, and The Child Development Centre.
