Residents invited to cuts discussion

The impact of cuts announced in the Government's Comprehensive Spending Review on services in Craven will be discussed next week.

Craven Council, North Yorkshire County Council and North Yorkshire Police will meet residents at 6.30pm on November 10 in Skipton Town Hall to consider where money should be saved.

A reduction in local government grants means the district council must find further savings of 1.2m over the next four years.

Craven Council leader Chris Knowles-Fitton said: "We face significant funding challenges over the next four years and it is not just fair but essential that tax payers play their part in future decisions regarding savings or generating additional income. We have an underlying commitment to protect front-line services such as waste management and planning.

"However, some cuts will have to be made and this will have an impact on Craven residents. This is their chance to help influence our future spending plans to ensure that residents are getting the best possible services within the severe future budget constraints we face."
