Residents’ fears over flooding set to recede
The work which started in January was funded by the Environment Agency with additional funding from Ryedale District Council and provides flood barriers for people living in the Kirkbymoorside and Kirby Mills areas.
In addition to the flood barriers on individual properties, work including fitting non-return valves for drainage pipes and new concrete floors as well as repointing was carried out on homes in a bid to boost defences.

Planners worked closely with the manufacturers and North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership, which is managing the scheme, to make sure everything was carried out correctly.
Coun Linda Cowling, chairman of Ryedale District Council’s commissioning board, said: “The domestic property flood resilience scheme is a true partnership effort to try and help Ryedale residents affected by flooding. Now this work has been completed even more Ryedale residents will have greater protection from the extensive damage caused by flooding.”
Kirby Mills residents Alf and Myra Jones said they know that the flood defences they have had installed in their property will play a vital role in stopping their home from flooding in the future.

Environment Agency area flood risk manager Innes Thomson added: “It is great to see people at risk of flooding in these communities taking an interest in the flood resilience products on offer to help protect their homes.
“We encourage as many householders as possible to take advantage of schemes like this.”
