Rail staff on track to help hospital fund

RAIL firm bosses and staff from a charity which helps raise cash for a Yorkshire children’s hospital launched a joint campaign yesterday to target travellers.

The Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity provides equipment and facilities not covered by NHS budgets and hopes its messages posted around the city’s station will boost its income.

The Team Theo campaign, which is named after the charity’s teddy bear mascot, has won the support of East Midlands Trains, which runs Sheffield station and services from the city to London St Pancras.

David Vernon-Edwards, the charity’s director said: “Over 245,000 patient journeys were made to our hospital last year from all over the region. We’re really pleased East Midlands Trains is on board with Team Theo.

“We want people either arriving into Sheffield or leaving on journeys to other parts of the country to know how special our children’s hospital is and how lucky we are to have a specialist hospital for children right here.”
