RAF veteran is 50,000th in return scheme
Gordon Mellor, 91, from Wembley, north London, is due to be presented with his award this morning at the Imperial War Museum.
The Heroes Return scheme, financed by the Big Lottery Fund, was set up in 2004 to mark the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

Hide AdTo date 24.3m has been awarded by the fund, which is now committing an extra 1 million over the next year to assist veterans in making commemorative battlefront journeys.
Mr Mellor used his funding to return to France in October where a memorial was held for escapees who died crossing the Pyrenees and for people who were killed for helping them.
