£2.1m cash support vital for economy

The news Government cash has been secured to help move forward plans for Malton’s new livestock market has been hailed as “vital” for the project.

It has been announced £2.1m of Government support has been secured to help bring forward the new livestock market and an agri-business park at Old Malton after those behind the project worked to secure cash towards the costs of a new roundabout on the A169 and other works to provide access to the twin employment sites.

It is estimated the schemes, which will see Malton’s livestock market moved from its town centre location, will create more than 500 new jobs and are expected to lead to a jobs boost in the local economy.

Coun Linda Cowling, Leader of Ryedale District Council, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the funding bid for the infrastructure needed to allow the Eden Camp employment site to proceed has been successful.

“It was vital for the future of a livestock market in Ryedale.

“The additional employment sites at Edenhouse Road will be a tremendous boost to jobs in Ryedale.”

Landowners of the site, the Fitzwilliam Trust Corporation added in a statement: “This investment is a firm foundation for the delivery of this exciting development that will benefit businesses across the region.”

The creation of the new livestock market will be a first priority for the project.

Charles Vyvyan, from Commercial Development Projects, the developers leading the project, said yesterday: “These road and infrastructure improvements will act as a catalyst for the development and move it forward to both relocate the livestock market and create a vibrant agricultural business park that will act as a boost to the local and regional economy.”
