Princess Royal to visit Great Yorkshire Show

Princess Anne will tour Harrogate's Great Yorkshire Showground on the first day of the country's leading agricultural showcase, which takes place from Tuesday July 13 to Thursday July 15.

The Princess will meet staff, visitors and exhibitors, as well as touring the showground.

Bill Cowling, honorary show director, said: "We are very much looking forward to welcoming Princess Anne in July.

"She is well known as a huge supporter of rural life and her interest and knowledge of all things equine is renowned.

"I am sure she will have a super time with us, and her visit

will give an extra reason to come to what is England's premier show."

The Great Yorkshire Show has strong links with the Royal Family, with Prince Charles being patron of the its organising body, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.

In 2008, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were guests of honour at the 150th show, and two years earlier, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall toured the event, meeting producers, exhibitors and presenting awards.

Princess Anne last visited the show in 1992.

A total of 130,731 people went through the gates at the

Harrogate showground last year, beating the attendance figure

of 126,376 in 2008 but falling short of the record 135,111 visitors in 2006, when Prince Charles and Camilla were guests of honour.
