‘No drama’ despite huge cuts
COUNCILLORS have voted for a freeze in council tax for the fourth year running in the East Riding. While neighbouring Hull Council will have to axe 450 jobs as part of plans to save £48m over the next two years, East Riding Council which has £44m to save in the same time-frame, is set to cut 40 posts.
Council leader Steve Parnaby said there were no plans to stop any services and he was confident “we will be able to achieve what we want with no dramas”.
The council is maintaining annual spending of £23m with the voluntary and community sector. It will invest £117m in its separately-funded capital programme, with ongoing projects including the new Bridlington Leisure World and the refurbishment of Haltemprice Leisure Centre.
