Head backs attack on ‘immoral’ pension change

A HEADTEACHER joined a wave of protests at East Yorkshire’s schools yesterday against “immoral” changes to pensions.

Chris Goodwin, who is retiring as head of Beverley Grammar School in August, said: “The changes they are proposing are draconian, totally unnecessary. The pensions are affordable, they were reformed two years ago. As for David Cameron talking about morality, I think robbing pensions to put it into the black hole created by the banks is immoral.”

More than 80 per cent of schools in Hull and more than a third in the East Riding were closed. The UK Border Agency said it was not aware of any significant problems at the Humber ports, although about a fifth of its staff nationally were on strike.

Brigg and Goole Tory MP Andrew Percy claimed unions would be making a “very big mistake” if they persisted with, claiming the Government “can’t pay out money that isn’t there”.
