Councillor Tim Swift was removed from the top job by a motion put forward by the council’s Conservative leader, Coun Stephen Baines, and seconded by Liberal Democrat leader, Coun Janet Battye. The motion was carried by a two vote margin.

They said the Labour cabinet had made clear their intentions to “push ahead with their own agenda”, reneging on earlier assurances, following disagreements over Hipperholme crossroads and the imposition of parking charges in the last week.
